Perry Homes Ranked Ninth on Houston Chronicle 100’s List of Top Private Companies
No. 9 Private: Perry Homes Seeks to Expand to Accommodate Increasing New-Home Demand
One of the many changes wrought by the coronavirus pandemic has been redefining the concept of "home" as residences doubled or tripled as home offices and makeshift remote-learning classrooms.
The trends brought on by the pandemic played to the strengths of Perry Homes, which ranked ninth on the Chronicle 100’s list of top private companies. In 2020, the company saw strong growth in both unit sales and margins in all of its markets across Texas, particularly in Austin and San Antonio, said Kathy Britton, CEO of the Houston-based homebuilder.
"We build homes for families, not just houses," Britton said.
Perry was founded more than 50 years ago by Britton’s father, Bob. The company, which operates in 80 communities across four major markets in Texas, has built more than 55,000 homes, gaining a reputation as "move-up" builder that offers new home designs with bigger living areas, flexible spaces and more amenities.
As was the case with other companies across the construction industries, Perry had its share of pandemic-related disruptions, including material and labor shortages. In addition to dealing with supply-chain issues, Perry faced pandemic-related lockdowns, which forced the company to adapt to an online selling platform.
Its sales team offered enhanced virtual tours and interactive floor plans, accessible to would-be home buyers from any smartphone, computer or tablet.
Britton said she expects Perry Homes to continue to grow in 2021, with the company seeking to fill a number of open field and office positions in Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. Perry is particularly focused on hiring additional construction managers in all its markets.
With corporate relocations and rock-bottom mortgage rates, the demand for move-in-ready homes is exceeding the supply, with builders such as Perry Homes struggling to keep up.
"We continue to see record-setting sales and growth across all of our markets," Britton said. "We expect to see a sustained, high demand for new homes as families are spending more time at home than ever before."
